Wildlife project at St Michael's School.
What cameras do we have?
Outdoor wildlife cameras x 2 with Infrared illuminators - cams 3&6
These cameras have been set up on the school wildlife area so that we can look out for wildlife during the day and at night.
Nest box cameras x 2 - cams 2&4
These are low-light colour cameras systems that utilise natural light.
We didn't have any birds nesting in the boxes this spring but we will keep watching to see if the birds use them during winter to keep warm. You may even see some insects having a look around during the summer months.
Bat camera - cam 7
This is a pan, tilt and zoom camera that we can control. The camera is sensitive to infrared light and illuminators in the roof space provide this. The camera has been set on a cross beam at the front of the school in a position inside the building corresponding to a known bat entrance.
We recently watched some Pipistrelle bats on the camera (see pictures adjacent)
Pond dipping camera
No more tadpoles in Jam jars! This is a portable camera unit that has its own viewing screen. We can use this as a tool to show children live wildlife from under water in the pond.
