Peregrine Watch at Wick Quarry - South Gloucestershire

Working with South Gloucestershire Council's Wildspace partnership, we installed a web camera and conceived an educational website allowing both school children and adults to watch Peregrine Falcons nesting within Wick Quarry in South Gloucestershire.

The website is primarily targeted at children aged 8-11. We conceived fun cartoon characters to give the site a personality. The site has competitions and features such as “Ask Frank” - the quarryman who knows everything about Peregrines. Frank also keeps a website diary throughout the year and children are encouraged to submit details of their personal Peregrine sightings.

All three chicks hatched. Unfortunately, the last chick to hatch didn't survive.

Visit www.peregrine.info to view Penny and her chicks LIVE!

The site links live and archive camera footage of the Peregrine with key stage 2 lesson plan activities. Information about Peregrines is presented in a fun way to help children learn.

During the spring 2007, the website attracted over 20,000 visitors from over 29 countries. Although mainly targeted at children, this site succeeds in engaging people of all ages and levels of interest.
